YO SOY FRIDA
46 years old
Book binding and Textile
I was born in the Culiacan, Sinaloa in the 70’s and now live in Mexico City. I come from a large family. I had a happy childhood, eventhough I had very scarse material things and a lot of chaos.
I had to leave school at 16 to start working and feed my family.
I read a lot and imagined that the world was very big and other realities were possible… I fought hard and started studying book binding and textiles after I was 30 yrs old.
My love of colors led me to always have flowers on my head, like Frida used to.
After an accident in which I fractured my lumbar vertebrae, I was forced to use a corset for a few months. It was during that time that I thought about Frida the most. She inspired me and helped me heal.
Despite a life filled with obstacles and a tough adolescence, I was able to pull through like a warrior, like Frida did. She is my greatest inspiration to keep on going and to live life to the fullest despite adversity.
Frida’s flowers and her colors are mi inspiration and my childhood struggles give me strength to live my life with honor.
