The hummingbird, or HUITZILIN in Náhuatl, symbolizes the enjoyment of life and lightness of being. It has been considered a sacred bird since ancient Mexico. It represented the god Huitzilopochtli, who wore it on his headpiece, always accompanied by a flower. Additionally, it’s been considered by many ancient cultures as a messenger between dimensions. Hummingbirds have a way of magically appearing when a loved one has passed. 

This fascinating bird is capable of the most amazing feats despite its small size. Hummingbirds can travel great distances in search of sweet nectar and pollinate along the way. They are able to fly backwards, and stand still midair flapping their wings an astonishing 50 to 80 times per second! They happen to have the largest heart in proportion to their body, than any living being on earth. They are basically a heart with wings.
