This pair of earrings represents the hand of Frida and of Diego. Diego Rivera was a big man in comparison to Frida. What she lacked in size, she made up in intense creativity, courage and unmatched sense of style. Frida may have been smaller than Diego, yet she stands at the front. This is how I chose to immortalize the magical hands of these two enigmatic figures.

Frida Kahlo was a true pioneer, a revolutionary woman who helped pave the way for women’s rights in Mexico. The legacy she passed on to us through her art and through her life, has left an indelible mark on our culture. She is an example of dignity, strength, grace, courage, beauty, and love in what has been, and continues to be, a predominantly machista Mexican society.

Sophie Simone Designs was honored to have been invited by the prestigious V&A Museum in London to take part in the Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up exhibit, which began June 13th, 2018. The #YoSoyFridaSSD project was born out of a desire to honor Frida through a series of portraits of strong women who decided to represent her in their unique and personal ways.  

Sophie Simone Designs is proud to give the stage to these amazing women, and to have them represent us through their images and their stories as they relate to Frida.
